Information For

Class of 2028 Transfers – Summer Communication 1

Hello, Class of 2028 Transfer Students! Again, welcome to Wesleyan!

As you may know, my name is Bill Bisese, and I’m the “Class Dean” for the Class of 2028. If you’ve never had a class dean before, think of me as your single, best resource on campus especially as you start the journey into Wesleyan and toward declaring your major(s). Yes, you will have many, many points of contact on campus and lots of people that will help you along the way, but a Class Dean is someone you’ll communicate with on a regular basis, contact when you get lost, and the last person to congratulate you at graduation before you shake hands with the President and make your way into the world. That day will come much faster than you can imagine!

This summer, I will be sending you updates and information as you prepare for a successful transition to the Wesleyan community. That outreach will include information about course registration, arrival day, credit articulation, housing, campus resources, and orientation. It’s really and truly important you read these emails fully, and I’d suggest you save them to a folder in your email app.

Also, be sure to bookmark your 2028 Class Blog. I keep lots of information here for the class, and it will be your best reference if you have to go back about something you missed. Ignore it at your own risk; I’ll always refer to it when you ask me questions I’ve already answered.

If you have any questions along the way, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here to help The absolute best way to reach me is by email at wbisese@wesleyan.edu. I can meet most Mondays and Friday mornings during the summer via Zoom, and I will be available in my office T-TH during the summer for scheduled appointments too!

• By now, you’ve been contacted about your username, email address, and your Wes ID number. You should have activated your Wesleyan email address and accessed your WesPortal account. Of course, you should prioritize following along in the Orientation App for all checklists of items you need to complete by certain dates this summer. If you didn’t get an email about your username, email set up, etc., please contact Paul Turenne from IT (Information Technology) at pturenne@wesleyan.edu and let him know.

• After this email, I’ll only be sending items to your Wes email account. Please always use that Wesleyan account when contacting me, or I may not respond.

• By now, you should have also received an initial letter from Admissions and our Registrar’s office about how your incoming credits are counting. Remember, you must send in your final transcript to complete that process. I’ll be explaining that letter more in an upcoming email.

In my next email, I’ll describe what that letter means and what it might not tell you. HINT! It’s a general breakdown of credits. For your courses specific use toward majors, or pre-requisites for other classes, you will have to take further this action this summer on those. More on that later.

Also, about pre-registration…that process will take place (partially) in July. You can’t do anything to speed up the process, and for most of you, a faculty academic advisor will not be available until you get to campus for the fall semester. And relax a little bit, Wesleyan only allows students to get into 2 credits during pre-registration in late July. Most of the work will be done with your faculty advisor in September. So, for now, focus on what the orientation office has for you on their checklists. Do that work now.

All best, and I’ll be in touch soon,
Dean Bisese
