Information For

Class of 2028 Transfers — Summer Communication 2

June 18 2025 (also sent to emails)

Hello Class of 2028 Transfer Students!

(Note: After today’s email, all messages will only go to your Wesleyan account.)

There’s a “Pre-Med” seminar being held tonight. See the second to the bottom item in this email for more information!

Have you started and completed the Academic Roadmap yet?
As the summer moves on, I trust you are considering ways to explore your interests and passions at Wes. The Academic Road Map (linked through the Orientation app) you are required to complete (in Wes Portal) is designed to help you do just that! (See bottom of this note for the link.) We hope to use the information also, so we can assign you an appropriate liberal arts faculty advisor. Your liberal arts advisor is likely to change when you declare your major. Until that point, the advisor will help you select classes and will approve your schedule before each semester.

Reflection on Residence Life
Campus housing is an integral part of the residential liberal arts college experience. While your studies are what bring you to Wesleyan and anchor your experiences here, the co-curricular opportunities that exist outside of the classroom in residence halls, campus houses, and other student spaces will help to enhance your educational experience in profound ways. Learning from a diversity of peers in a residential environment is a hallmark of living in a dynamic community like Wesleyan’s. There are also student and full-time administrative residential staff who will support you during your journey here. Take a look at this site, specifically dedicated to housing transfer students. (To submit your preferences, see bottom of the page list for the link.)

Please be sure to fill out the transfer housing preference form so that Residential Life can incorporate your preferences when making assignments. A link to the form should be visible in your WesPortal. Residential Life does try to house incoming transfer students near one another so that you’ll have a sense of community with one another.

Do you have accommodations you need put in place?
The university provides services and accommodations to make our resources more accessible. If you think this might be useful to you, check out more information here.  (To submit your requests, see the link below.)

What about Placement Tests?
Another helpful guide for selecting classes for the fall are placement tests. If you have an interest in a math or language course, you can take the applicable placement test to determine which classes are the best fit for your level of proficiency. These assessments are designed to help you, not cause stress. Consider them as opportunities for self-evaluation so that you don’t enroll in a course that’s incompatible with your level of proficiency. We do not recommend that you study for any placement tests; the goal is to assess what you know now.

We are here to help you on this journey, so don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns. Remember to pace yourself as well; while transitioning to a new college can be challenging, the bulk of the challenges should invigorate you, not drain you. Here is a quick video about transfer tips created by one of our peer advisors, Lila, who also transferred to Wesleyan.

Are there jobs on campus?
To work on campus, be sure to bring the original, hard copy of your ID(s) from this I-9 list of acceptable identification documents when you arrive and read about the onboarding process. For assistance, email campusemployment@wesleyan.edu and explore the Gordon Career Center webpages.

Happy June!  See more below!

From Our Friends in CSS:
Dear Sophomore Transfer Students in the Wesleyan Class of 2028,

The College of Social Studies (CSS) is a rigorous, multidisciplinary major consisting of four subject areas: History, Government, Political and Social Theory, and Economics. Founded in 1959, the CSS is a reading and writing intensive program that facilitates intellectual development based on weekly essays, small group tutorials, and a vibrant intellectual environment outside the classroom. The CSS Program starts in the sophomore year. You can learn more about the CSS at College of Social Studies – Wesleyan University.

It is possible that the CSS Sophomore Class of 2028 will have some spaces open up over the summer. If you are interested in applying to the CSS, please contact Martha Crebbin, the CSS Administrative Assistant, at mcrebbin@wesleyan.edu to let her know of your interest.

The CSS Office will be closed for much of July and will reopen on July 29. When the CSS Office opens on July 29, Martha Crebbin will send the CSS application to interested sophomore transfer students.

If you have questions about the CSS, please send an email to Martha Crebbin at mcrebbin@wesleyan.edu and the CSS co-chair, Professor Skillman at gskillman@wesleyan.edu and Professor Wiliarty at swiliarty@wesleyan.edu.

Yours,

Gil Skillman and Sarah Wiliarty, CSS Co-Chairs and Martha Crebbin, CSS Administrative Assistant
