CSS – Letter to Incoming Transfer Students in the Class of 2028 – June 2025

Dear Sophomore Transfer Students in the Wesleyan Class of 2028,

The College of Social Studies (CSS) is a rigorous, multidisciplinary major consisting of four subject areas: History, Government, Political and Social Theory, and Economics. Founded in 1959, the CSS is a reading and writing intensive program that facilitates intellectual development based on weekly essays, small group tutorials, and a vibrant intellectual environment outside the classroom. The CSS Program starts in the sophomore year. You can learn more about the CSS at College of Social Studies – Wesleyan University.

It is possible that the CSS Sophomore Class of 2028 will have some spaces open up over the summer. If you are interested in applying to the CSS, please contact Martha Crebbin, the CSS Administrative Assistant, at mcrebbin@wesleyan.edu to let her know of your interest.

The CSS Office will be closed for much of July and will reopen on July 29. When the CSS Office opens on July 29, Martha Crebbin will send the CSS application to interested sophomore transfer students.

If you have questions about the CSS, please send an email to Martha Crebbin at mcrebbin@wesleyan.edu and the CSS co-chair, Professor Skillman at gskillman@wesleyan.edu and Professor Wiliarty at swiliarty@wesleyan.edu.

Yours,

Gil Skillman and Sarah Wiliarty, CSS Co-Chairs

and Martha Crebbin, CSS Administrative Assistant
